Rate your School

I'm just curious if all schools are created equal. I know this is a stupid question, and I realize they are not, but just wanted to get some feedback on my school. I attend a small school in KY with a small class of 15 students. In the last year alone, there have been 2 teacher dismals, and numerous revisions to the cirriculum by the state board. We are always having conflicts with teachers and some of the materials and videos that we are required are either very outdated, or totally useless and just create "busy" work. Is this typical? I have a BS in biology and never had one problem with this degree. Only my ADN. Just a little leery that I'm learning what I need to know when I graduate?? Thanks for listening.

I'm going for the ADN also & I think my school is wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better professor or better lab instructors. They welcome you with open arms, encourage communication & treat us wonderful.

My professor's lectures are long, but she keeps the pace slow that we have time to write down everything she is saying & she encourages questions. Unfortunately, we only have her as an instructor for about 7 more weeks...she's 8 months pregnant & is leaving us in mid-March.

At my campus, we are a class of 30......there are 4 campuses so the total class is 120 students. I'm curious to see how many make it to the second semester. We just completed our first month of class today & we still have all 30.

I have very few negative things to say about my BSN program. I felt it adequately prepared me and my fellow classmates say the same. We started out with 30 and graduated 17. The majority of the people dropped out the first semester of nursing. The ones that did drop .... it was more for financial reasons (it is a private university and the tuition can be a little costly...although the financial aid office is great about finding scholarships, etc.) A couple failed a class and just are a year behind and will be finishing this May. We have an excellent passing rate.... it was 100% for my class and over the past few years prior to us it was always about the same.

There was two clinical instructors (generally our clinical instructors were not the same as our class instructor) in my time there that were not so great. One constantly put the students down and the other was a only a few years older than us (the majority of the class was about the age of 22-23 when we graduated). This instructor tried to be more of a friend than a teacher and in the process revealed some personal info that none of us wanted to know. However, when eval time came, we all expressed how we felt about the situation, and neither of these instructors were welcomed back the following semester. So despite the not so great experience with them, our school respected our opinions and was really focused on making the best academic environment possible.

As far as lectures, all of the instructors were experts in their fields and all had a minimum of a MSN....many had PhD's. I defintely am thankful for the education I recieved at my university and would recommend it.
