Question on starting school...

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello Everyone...

I am starting LPN school in August. It will be part time nights for 2 years. I am recently working as a CNA at a nursing home. My classes I will be taking are Anatomy and Physiology, Mental Health Nursing 1 and 2, Nursing 1,2,3 IV, Geriatrics, Pharmacology, Family Centered Health Care, Personal and Vocational Relations and Clinical Practicum.

I was wondering if you can tell me what all books I will need. I would like to get an early start on studing. Also what kind of supplies would I need if any?

Thank you so much

book lists differ from program to program, but i would suggest you get started with a study skills book, and start working on anatomy with some anatomy flash cards. also, pick up a "nursing math" book and freshen up you basic math skills (i love "Math for Nurses" by Mary Jo Boyer).

good luck! :)

what they reuired us to review and we were tested on first semester were:

body mechanics, positioning, isolation, medical asepsis, transfer, oxygen therapy basic, wound care - type, what to report, how wound looks like, type of dressing, irrigation; hemodynamic - antiembolic stockings, sequentially compression devices; also we review systemic structure and mechanism of action: respiratory and cardiac system;

you could ask at your school for books, ask at bookstore or maybe dean of nursing could give you any help hand. also any friends who attend your school, ask them also.

good luck, have a good christmas, :)

Start learning your pharmacology, and your medical terminology. Thats a great way to get a jump on the semester.

I hope you aren't taking all those at one time!! Check with your school as they will have the list of books that will be required for each semester. I wouldn't jump a semester ahead and buy future books, as they might change from semester to semester. Just get the books that you will need for this coming semester. I would start looking over the A&P and pharmacology since I believe those are most important. As far as supplies go, a stethoscope, penlight, and a little note pad for writing down pt information in clinicals should get you started. Good luck!!
