Pre-Accelerated Nursing

Hi!

I am currently a student at the University of Florida planning on applying to the Accelerated Program here. I am also planning on applying to UNF & UCF. I am almost done with my pre-requisites for the program but still need to work on my majors criteria.

Based on my tracking, I should be done with everything by Fall 2018. My major requires my last semester be an internship solely so I will technically not be taking any classes. Then I will have a free semester before the program starts.

Do you think this will look unfavorable on my application? I don't think so but then again i'm not too sure! What would you suggest I do during the free semester? I am on my way to becoming a CNA so I could work in the hospital or should I take another internship abroad?

I'm confused. The program requires an "internship" before you actually begin? If so, I don't see the point. In a clinical environment, without any official status as a nursing student engaged in an approved clinical training program... you'd only be allowed to function as a lay person unless you have some sort of nurse assistant training. An "internship" implies that it has an educational purpose.

Nurse practice acts do have some variation, but for the most part, nurses are not allowed to delegate any clinical to activities to untrained lay persons except for caregivers in a Home Care environment. It just sounds very strange to me. In a clinical practicum, nursing students must be supervised by a qualified Clinical Instructor - they are actually functioning under his/her license when they do practicums. Student practicums are also unpaid. It just sounds odd to me.

My major (Health Education & Behavior) requires an internship my last semester. I'm not a nursing major so my internship could be in a hospital but it would revolve more around community health promotion, etc. I was wondering if for my free semester, as the accelerated program does not start until summer, should I work as a CNA at my local hospital or should I take a nursing "internship" (that's really volunteering but they call it an internship) abroad to India/Bali?
