hi everyone! i'm so glad i found this forum, a have a lot of questions and i'm not sure where to go. i'm going to start my pre-reqs in january, but i can only go part time, so i'm starting with chem and a + p I. i work four days a week, have a 2 year old and have a seven month old, so two classes was all i could start with right now. it'll take me 2 years to finish my pre- reqs, so i won't be in clinicals for a while yet, but i'm not sure when i'll have to take the nln pre admission test...i have a little while right? i just got the study guide, and i'd like to have time to study and do really well. i met with an advisor, and she said most people finish all the pre -reqs first and then do the nursing courses, is that what everybody else is doing? i feel like i'm having to figure this all out by myself, i've never gone to school, and i'm getting no help from the school itself...btw, it's a community college in a suburb of philadelphia, if anybody has any experience...

thanks in advance, and i look forward to making lots of friends here!!!

Welcome to the board! You'll learn a lot from here, I know I did.

I think you will find that the majority of people do all their pre-reqs first. For me, I have no choice because the program is so competitive that you have to have them complete to even have a chance of getting in.

A little advice, since you are just starting out and want to take it easy, I would reconsider taking two science classes off the bat. Those are both difficult classes so it will be like going to school full time. I'm taking Anatomy and chemistry right now (also english comp II) and it's kicking my butt. If I were you I would take one science and something easier like english, history, nutrition, etc..

you read my mind!!! i was thinking of doing english comp. instead of chem, but i really want to start with a + p and get it out of the way...i think that's what i'll do!!! geez, i'm so excited, i just can't wait to start school!!!

I would reconsider this. If you take your A & P closer to the time you will be taking your nursing classes your chances in nursing will be better with the "fresh" A & P in your head.

And don't take two science classes together, as others have said. These are going to be the classes you really need to have in nursing so it is best to be able to spend the time to really learn the stuff.
