Orientation

Nursing Students General Students

Just wanted to express how happy I am about the fall! Orientation was interesting, we are required to wear white smocks with royal blue trim. It used to be royal blue and they changed it. Anyone want to share their orientation experience?

My orientation is on May 8th, I've been counting down for the last 4 weeks. I am beyond excited, feels like I've been working towards this for so long, and my dreams are finally starting to come true. Our uniforms are all white with our green and white school logo patch on the arm. We can buy ours from anywhere thankfully because I love the Greys Anatomy Scrubs

I had my orientation yesterday, and our classes start on June 10th. The first half of the day was going over policies and procedures, services on campus, and getting to know each other and the faculty. Lunch was provided by the Student Nurse Organization and we got to meet and talk to the student nurses in the cohort ahead of us. After lunch, we went to 5 different stations where we ordered our stethoscopes (Littmann Classic II S.E.), penlight, hemostats, and bandage scissors, tried on and bought our scrubs, lab coats, and polos (for community sites) which are maroon, our school color, filled out some paperwork, got to tour the simulation lab, and went over our books for summer.

The simulation lab was really cool! We aren't allowed to call them "dummies," they are called family members :) They had 3 adult male hi fidelity family members where we can listen to heart beats, take pulses, start IV's, and give shots. There is a birthing mother who is also hi fi and gives birth to a ~6 lb baby, and the instructors can make her have a seizure. There were 2 baby family members and then 2 other adult family members that weren't hi fi. We got to tour the lab and take a peek at the control room, which is where the instructors go to watch us during our simulations and throw out different situations. Then, we got to listen to heart beats and take pulses on the hi fi family members.

When we went over the books, there were about 15 that we needed just for summer. There were some that they suggested we get new for the CDs and online access codes and there were some that we could get used. I ordered my books last night after getting home. I ended up ordering from Barnes and Noble.com, half.com, and textbooksRus.com and saved about $150 over buying from the school bookstore. I ended up spending around $600 and would have spent around $750 buying from the bookstore.

My orientation isn't till May 23rd! I'm so excited! Good luck with your program!! :)
