Nursing Entrance Exam

My school requires the TEAS exam for he nursing program. A while back, I was using the ATi book itself and didn't do too well on the TEAS. So I have found the time to start back studying and I decided to get the McGraw-Hill Nursing Entrance Exam Book with 16 practice tests along with a CD with tests on it as well. I have been using khan academy to review since the science part (earth and life science) were my weaknesses. Can anyone else suggest another textbook that may be helpful or site.

I used the McGraw- Hill Nursing exam book and I didn't really care for it. I took the exam twice. The first time I used the McGraw Hill and scored on the low end. The second time I used the ATI manual for Teas V and I scored well. Other than that, those are the only two books I used.

Thank you for responding with your suggestions. This is actually my third time taking the exam.

Does your program allow a third attempt? Mine only allows two. I did the practice tests with McGraw Hill. May I ask what prereq classes you have taken so far? If you are pretty close to finishing you should have the info you need. When you say you didn't do well, did you score proficient, advanced, or exemplary? Don't look at your score on the Teas strictly as a percentage score. Don't compare it to say what you would get on an A&P test. They aren't the same. I see people in here all the time saying I did horrible on the Teas!! I'm so disappointed in myself!!! I got a 78%!!! When in all actuality a 78 is a good score and is considered an Advanced score.

The whole point of this test is to see if you need any remediation before nursing school. Do you have these basic concepts under control? Can you read and write at the level needed for nursing school. Can you do calculations? Do you have a solid foundation in science already so you can understand the science concepts taught in nursing school. Not many people understand this and this is why many do poorly. I had pretty much finished all of my prereqs before taking it. I recognized many of the concepts from my English comp class, my algebra classes, and my various science classes. My biggest issue was with chemistry. I hadn't taken it since high school and I had forgotten most of the concepts. But once I was in the program it all came back. What did help me in the science were my A&P classes and my micro class. I don't even remember anything from earth science being on it.

Yes my school allows it. Its been a year since m 2nd attempt. I have taken all my course classes for ADN.. and have even started taking Bio II for my BSN since I have been waiting and trying to get this studying together. My overall percentage was 58%. Of course I feel like i did not study enough, but the science section I scored 46% overall and my lowest percentages were in earth/life/physical science. I am currently using the McGraw book and feel as if the science part is very detailed for me, however; many say that the ATI TEAS V book itself is the best resource to use. I have an 3.7 GPA as well. The minimum requirement for my school is 60% and they still denied me for 2 points with such a good GPA and core classes completed plus extra. I did a print out from the TEAS on the ATI site on what areas I should focus on more and it was the science part of course and there was some Earth Science listed as well. I have forgotten many of the questions on the test since it has been so long.
