Med-Surg ATI Comprehensive Final

I took my med surg comprehensive ATI final and failed by one question. We have a re-take in a few days and I'm extremely nervous because we have to obtain a level 2 or higher in order to pass the entire class (even though I have an A in the class, I will still fail if I don't pass the ATI) Our school takes med surg in 1 semester, 12 credit hours.. I was wondering if anyone has had to retake the med surg ATI final and how similar it was to the first exam. The exam I took and failed was EXTREMELY hard and detailed, most of the material wasn't covered during our course.

Hi. I just completed the ATI Med Surg final and I wanted to share my experience. I received a Proficiency level 3 at 76%. I'm sure I could have done better if I wasn't running short on time (I tend to be reluctant to pass questions I don't know).

I looked far and wide in the previous nights to try and get an edge on this test. In my program, it's an all or nothing test - you either receive a 2 and pass the class or you retake the class in the following semester. After two class failures you're gone. No excuses. I'm sure many other programs experience this same weight. It is my hope that I can help someone who is experiencing as much anxiety as I was over this test. First, I will tell you what you need to score. Second, I will go into what worked for me. Last, I share personal experience during the test

1. First, for a definitive answer on what you need to score in order to receive each proficiency level you can look at the "Proficiency Level Table RN CMS 2010" tab in the student ATI Online resource. This changes with each test year. You can reach the tab through the "Product Support Materials" collapsible menu. For those of you that are too lazy to do this, here is the information:

Adult Medical-Surgical Nursing

Level 1 = 55.6%

Level 2 = 64.4%

Level 3 = 73.3%

2. Second, after all my searching, I found the best resource to be the practice tests. Hands down. I originally tried reading ATI book from cover to cover but that would take the better part of a week. Taking the practice tests and reading the rationales was leagues better. I went through all the practice assessments twice. After two times you really end up memorizing the material. If you're still worried, more practice questions can be found between the chapters.

**I think it's worth noting that focus should be shown to memorizing the ATI Lab Values. I used pre-made flash cards I found on Quizlet for this.

3. Last. During the test I found many of the questions to be loosely based on the ATI practice tests. Some questions were incredibly and other questions were nebulous. That probably sounds like every nursing test you have ever experienced. Why should this be any different?

TL;DR: I did well on this Med Surg ATI by focusing on the practice assessments. The test is very comprehensive, and the proctored version was slightly harder than the practice assessments.

Going to take ATI Med Surg within 12 hours, consistently scoring roughly 70% on all areas except endocrine. I am reviewing it now. I need a level 3 on the exam.

Will the practice tests prepare me or should I just read the book on the areas I am weak in?

I have to retake my ATI med Surg as well can anybody give me tips on how you studied to pass with required level ? I missed level by one question..I would really appreciate you tips on how to study or what to study I retake it in a week...
