March Madness for nursing students!

Hello, all! I'm a 4th semester in an ADN program. My school just initiated what they are calling "March Madness" for all of the nursing students, except 1st semester. It allows them to make sure we are all progressing and performing competently. They give all the semesters a different day to come and we check off on 7 skills stations: VS, assessment, IV starts, catheter insertion etc. Just wondering if any of the other schools out there are doing this kind of thing!

Huh, that's interesting! We don't do anything like that, and honestly, I'm glad. March always seems to be the time when projects are due and tests are coming fast and furiously...I don't think I could handle more stress, lol.

Do you have to check off on all those things at the end of the semester, as well?

You must go to HGTC! I'm in my fifth semester there right now :) We had to go through a mini March Madness type skill check off earlier this semester. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but I would definitely watch the fundatmentals skills DVDs if you have them.

No, as long as we pass, we are considered "golden." We may have separate check-offs for the specific semester that we are in, however, to practice new skills we have learned.

Ah! Yes, I do go to HGTC! They are setting up a session (I think one of the adjunct clinical instructors will be there) where we can practice anything we need to. I will definitely take a look at those DVDS!

Oh, ok, that's not so bad. I was thinking you were going to have to do it twice. Might be helpful actually, especially if there are things you haven't gotten a chance to practice in clinicals.

Hey I start this summer may 20 at hgtc what is the 1st semester like

First semester at HGTC is ok, basic nursing CNA critical thinking. You have to pass everything but those lecture test are top priority. Second semester is where it gets real. It's a very intense program but doable I am going into my third semester. March madness was so stressful but I passed all areas. It helps you perform better skills when you go to clinicals.
