Lpn Vs Rn

I don't know about NC but here in Delaware and the NJ area it depends on where you go. There is some places that will pay an LPN 28.00 an hour. I know the hospital pays there new grad RNs, Cooper, between 21-23 and hour as an RN. I can make that as an LPN at the nursing home. Depends on what you want to do and where you go. I would imagine the RN has more employment opportunity but with a shortage of Nurses, there are 100s of jobs for Ls out there that are comparable in pay.

I was once in your shoes. I spoke to HR managers at local hospitals and also some nursing professors at my local Community College. They all told me that the LPN position is being phased out. So I am in the process of becoming a RN. I'm in the South Jersey, Philadelphia, PA area and the hospital I work for aren't hiring any more LPN's. I don't know if this is the situation in your area, though. I'd call a hospital's HR department and ask their oppinion.

RN'S in my area(Connecticut) make about $10 more per hour than LPN's but like jdid said, it depends on the area. LPN's are being phased out of hospitals, but they are still being utilized in nursing homes, homecare, etc.

I'm in charlotte too, and just browsing the major hospital's job postings, they are mostly for RNs. This isn't exactly scientific, but just a trend I noticed. Are you looking to go to school and trying to decide between the two?

Just to clarify, LPNs are in now way being phased out. I am also working on my RN but LPNs will be around for a very long time. They tried to phase them out and stopped hiring them at hospitals but let me tell you I've heard from many old timers that they will soon be bringing them back in.
