Hello all :)

im also new to this and will be starting lpn class in 2wks in Northern NJ.

im very excited and would like if someone could tell me what to expect on the first day.

i've been wanting to become a nurse for so long and now that the time is near,, im so nervous, scared and excited.

if anyone will be kind enough to share their experience, it will be greatly appreciated.

feel free to PM/email me anytime.

Welcome. Good luck to you!

If you are anything like I was on my first day you will be very excited, but nervous also...wondering if you can really "do this". In my program the director of the program came in to let us know what would be expected of us. She basically let us know to put everything else in our lives on the back burner. She told us that we would be eating, sleeping, (etc) nursing school and if any of us thought that there may be anything that would get in the way of that to take care of it now and come back later. She explained that alot of people drop out, not because of grades, but because of the personal stress that nursing school can cause. After her talk 2 people walked out and never came back. I'm not telling you this to scare you, but to prepare you mentally for what is coming. LPN school is very demanding...especially a 12 month program. You are basically having to learn in 12 months what most cover in 18 or 24 and you have to retain it just as well. I promise you though that if you can commit yourself whole heartedly to the program; letting spouse and kids and even other family members know they will have to help out, pitch in, and pick up the slack...there will be lots of PB&J for dinner and under no circumstances disturb you the night before a test, then you will do fine. If I can make it through after Hurricane Katrina took my home and everything I owned, get through my last semester pregnant for my 3rd child, and still manage to graduate 2nd in my class and pass the NCLEX 3 weeks after giving birth by C-section then you can too. GOOD LUCK future nurse.:nurse:

WOW!!!! chattyboo

im totally committed to putting my all into this class. i have a 13yrs daughter and a GREAT boyfriend who's very supportive. yes i am excited & nervous but im ready to do this.

im going to quit my full time job and work part time on the weekends.. hopefully this wont interfere with my studies,, but im going to have to have some pocket change..lol

thanks again and good luck to u ;)

Hi Belindam! I just posted to you on another thread asking when your classes start....now I have the answer. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!!! I'm so glad you have a good support system in place. Happily, I do, too. My husband said he will do whatever it takes to pick up all the slack around the house, etc. while I'm in school. I have to keep working full time while I go, so I'm sure I'll be exhausted and stressed. But I'm comitted to doing this. It will be 2 years of my life, but it will go by fast. What's 2 years in the grand scheme of things, after all?

Please let us know how your first day goes. I'll be thinking of you and sending warm positive vibes your way.

moonbean

Right on Moonbean! I feel the same way. It will be exhausting and overwhelming at times, but it's just two years, and what an accomplishment once those two years are done. It seems like the first step in a very rewarding career change and I couldn't be more excited about it!

Welcome BelindaM. Please let us know how your first day goes. It sounds like you have a great support system and the right attitude that's going to carry you to your ultimate goal! How exciting!!! We'll have to keep in touch so we can compare experiences in school.

thanks Moobean & Flwoobie :)

i will definetly keep you posted on my success. i've been waiting for this moment for a while now and cant believe its finally here.. im going to need some NEW positive friends that i can chat with from time to time,, especially when the stress hit me..lol

luckly my program is only 14 months thank GOD and im very excited my new life experinces and new friends.

i look forward to speaking with u guys later & thanks again...
