I'm not too far from your area. I recommend the following:

Visit nursing homes, SNFs, ALFs, hospitals and clinics and ask the hiring person, usually a DON or DSD will know, whether they hire new grad LVNs. Ask what the pay rate is. (This is what I did while making my decision)

Meet local students at the schools when you visit, just ask them.

This way you can better understand the local reputation.

I know nothing about west med, but know that Unitek and Carrington have bridge programs to become RNs.

Hi

Thanks for the friend request. I went to a school called St Francis but it has closed. I don't know much about west med. I had a classmate that went there before ST Francis, and she said she felt the program wasn't teaching her much, so she left and looked for another program. As for unitek, I have only had friends who have gone to the bridge so not sure of the lvn portion. My advice is that it seems that each program has problems or things that can be done better. I haven't heard of a program that didn't have some critics whether substantial or not. Wherever you choose to go, really take it upon yourself to be proactive in getting the most from it. They are fast paced and many people complain about that but it's nursing school, and it flies.

I have a few co workers and friends who went to the bridge at Unitek and I'm hoping to go next year. I've heard it can be disorganized but I hear that about a lot of programs. I also have a friend taking the BSN online with them and it's going well.

Did you try mission college, gavilan college, chabot college? Also check bvnpt for accreditation and maybe some new ones popped up.

Good luck!
