HI. So starting this fall, I'll be a sophomore pre-nursing major. I'm gonna apply to Clayton States Nursing program . I read that they require the KNAT, so:

1. What is the KNAT?

2. What sections are on it?

3. What's the highest score one can get?

4. How do I study for it if I don't have the money to buy a guide?

The KNAT is a nursing school entrance exam. I just took it last week!

The sections are:

1). Reading- read a passage and answer questions about the content.

2). Math- seemed to be only fractions and word problems, some ratios. This section was easy! No algebra or geometry

3). Writing- This was a difficult section. Read a passage and answer questions. Study your grammar and writing structure. Questions like: where would this paragraph go? Which of the following sentences should be omitted.

4). Science- All A&P physiology only. This was a difficult section you simply must know your systems and how they work.

No need to buy the Kaplan study book because the content is too broad for this test.

Highest score one can get is 100

Good luck!

Hi Jordan1927! I just became a Sophomore this summer and attend CSU. I will apply for Nursing program in Jan for Fall 2016. I purchased the Kaplan study guide. Gives some good tips. Vocab, reading, math. I will gradually review this and my old A&P notes to help prepare. I have 17 credits this semester so I will be a busy bee! Where are you taking your prereqs?

hey, @sarahscarn how did you get an 85? help!! especial for the science… did you use any book?

I would not recommend buying any Kaplan study books, they don't help! I thought the two hardest sections were writing and science, just know your physiology for each of the systems as well as pathophysiology.

A lot of the writing sections was deciphering sentence structure and sentence placement within a passage. It's confusing because you can argue for each answer. My best advice would be to brush up on physiology only and use sat prep for the writing section!

Best of Luck!!

thank you so much!! did you use your A&P book to review physiology? if not, what book did you use?

Is the Kaplan different by school?

I am a student studying for the KNAT and I was wondering since it is online are you able to skip questions and come back to them later?

It's been a while since I took it, but i'm 99% sure you can. There are sections (ie. math, english, a&p, etc). When you're in a section, you can go back and forth between the questions only in that section. Once you leave that section and move to the next one, you can't go back to it and change/look at answers.

Thank you, Jordan this was very helpful!

Do you have any advice for taking the test? like what math to study for if you remember that is what you were tested over. Since there are only 20 science questions, do you remember what systems were covered the most, ie. Respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, renal?

I have another question if anyone is willing to answer. I know for the math portion we will be required t do conversions. Will we be given access to some of those conversion numbers (ex. how many mL in a Liter, how many mg in a gram) or will we be required to know those numbers?
