Hello everyone! I just have to share this experience that I had at work today. I work as a Phleb in my local hospital while I am attending school.
Today I went into this elderly gentlemans room to draw his blood and I saw one of the most touching sites ever.
The gentleman was lying there in his hospital bed, holding a mound of papers. He had these papers clutched so tightly. I began to pull out his arm so that I could place the tourniquet on and I then saw what he was holding.
There in this old mans hand he held his college degree (It was a BS in educ.), a picture of his wife and himself on their wedding day, pictures of his children, and his grandchildren. It was as if he held his entire life in his aging hand. I then went to the other arm (not wanting to disturb his memories) and drew from that one.
Sorry so long. Thanks all for listening. I was just so moved by this that I wanted to share it with all of you. Has anyone else ever met a patient that truly touched them like this?
