I've posted explaining my situation before and got some good advice, but I'm just so bummed out and need some encouragement. :crying2: I can't get into the fall '05 class (although I was told to try anyway) all because of one stupid math class...arg! I have to have 2 remedial (one will be complete end of this sem.) math courses before I can actually have the one that counts toward my degree which I won't be able to take until summer. (fall admission deadline-Mar1) Sooo I'm going to have to apply for Fall '06. The upside is I will have all of '05 and most of '06 to get all my pre-req's finished but that just seems like so far away. Dang!!! Anyone else been in this situation? How long did it take/or will it take before your graduate? I feel like I'm the only one on the planet who won't get their associates in nursing till May '08. :o I knew I always disliked Math, now I really have a reason to hate it. :chuckle

I'm just afraid I won't go through will all of this because it is going to take so long and I need some advice/words of encouragement from those who have been there to get me through this slump I'm in. I'm 29 (just turned) and will be 32 by the time I graduate. Who knows what will happen in those 3 1/2 years. Sigh.

Can You CLEP the other math class?

Just a thought.

Hang in there!

no, I already asked. My school doesn't accept much.

I believe there is a plan for us all. While you may not understand the reasons right now, you are meant to follow this course. I attended my community college for a year prior to applying to and getting accepted to our nursing program. This enabled me to complete all but two non nursing classes. I believe this is a huge asset as I am now able to focus on the nursing classes which are hard enough on their own. Also this will allow you to concentrate more on grades in the few classes you take at a time, instead of carrying a full load and being overwhelmed. As far as May 08 being so far away, remember time will pass the same if you go to school and reach for a goal, or do nothing and have nothing to show for it. Hang in there!

Sorry, things haven't worked out the way you wish they had. On the other hand, this is probably a blessing in disguise. Our nursing program (ADN) had such a long waiting list that I got not only all my prereqs done but also all the other none nursing classes done before I started. I can't even imagine how stressed I would have been during my Med/surg semesters if I had to take a full load. It is tough, we have lost quite a few people on the way. The least amount of work you can do outside school and the least amount of credits you can take the better. Both for your grade points and also for your sanity...

I started this journey when I was 43 and will be 47 when I get done. It has flown by and in a sick sick way, I know I will miss it when it is over. Just get those prereqs and other courses done and enjoy the journey. There is so much to learn and experience soon you will be standing at graduation amazed that it is over.

I was in a similar situation as you. I started taking my prereqs January 2002, I applied for the nursing program in May 2003 and got accepted for January 2005. Talk about dissapointing. At least I had time to finish my prereqs and work on my classes that I'll need to transfer to the University after I get my associates. And I did get called to start one semester early, so it all worked out in the long run. Hang in there. And good luck to you!

i started taking classes i needed in Fall 2001. yep, 3 long years ago. my intention was to start in Fall 2002 in ADN program. but, i got pregnant in January 2002 (God's timing, not mine), due in September. I just couldn't do that, so i went in Spring and Summer 2002, took Fall 2002 off to have baby. went Spring 2003, Summer 2003 and by then had all pre-reqs and co-reqs out of way, started nursing 1 year later than originally intended and am now 6 months 13 days from graduating! while it seems like FOREVER since i started (my now 4 year old son had just turned 1!!) it really has flown by. you will get there. and don't let age deter you. 32 when you finish? thats nothing. we have several, several people in our class in their 30s to start, quite a few in 40s and one in 50s. probaby more over 30 than under 30. so dont let age deter you at all.

you can do it you can do it you can do it :)

I know what you mean. I started taking classes in Jan. 2002, and applied for the program then. Well, I was told that there was no waiting list and that I would have been able to start my clinicals in Fall '04. Well, our college only starts a new program every fall. Last summer I never received my letter to start clinicals this fall. When I called they said they had to hold 32 of us over because there where so many. That means I had to wait until next fall to start. I was really upset at first (I mean, I would have been almost half way to my LPN by now), but I believe that there was a greater plan in store. So, at the end of Sept. I received my letter stating I would start my clinicals next fall. When I stop to think about it, it just gives me a chance to finish my RN prereqs. and save some money so I don't have to work at the same time. I have three kids and my husband makes good money. But going from 2 incomes to 1 is better when it can be planned for ahead of time. I am really sorry to here about your dilemma. Hang in there. If there is one thing we all can say is that there is a means to an end. It may not seem like it, but there is.

P.S. I was 29 when I started and I will be 33 when I finish.

Thank you everyone for giving me some encouragement. Believe it or not it does help me to hear your stories. It probably is a blessing in disguise. I'm trying to look at the positives. One positive is my youngest will probably be starting kindergarten, so no daycare when I return to work. 2) I'll have plenty of time to finish all of my classes with less pressure to meet a deadline. 3)I can work on my GPA. There are a lot of positives about it, I could go on and on but if I don't get into the fall 2006 class I'll have to change majors unfortunately. My family just can't hold out that long. Ah well....one day at a time.

No advice....but I was kinda in the same boat...so I applied for the LPN program. Got in, and loving it for the most part. I get 14 credits towards my degree...plus I already have some pre-reqs for my ADN done. At least it gets your foot in the door.
