Hello all,

I am just finishing up my first semester of an ASN nursing program. I have two children I homeschool, ages 12 and 4. I have help watching them on saturdays and sundays (cant leave them but they play with them while I study) I have a sitter while I am in class and clinical but not much help outside of that because family is too far away. I"m just not sure I can continue like this. Im not able to cook, clean, do school with them or anything anymore. I have a Bachelors degree in another field and I never imagined nursing school would be this intense. I often make A's but I certainly have to study to get those grades! My health has really taken a hit this semester. I have been to the doctor numerous times and have been constantly sick for a month and a half now (50 days to be exact). Undergoing tests at the moment and waiting for results. I am so stressed out and tired I am sure thats not helping with health. 5 days after my finals my summer classes start. I dont know what to do?! I am not happy and neither are my children. My sitter has already informed me she cant continue into next semester. I dont feel ready to throw this opportunity away and afraid if I stop now that no nursing school will take me on down the road. Im just not sure with my health like this, lack of help, and now with no sitter than I can physically do the program at this point in my life. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi..I'm sorry you are going through a rough time right now. I think you were very brave taking on this opportunity in the first place. I would try to get back the motivation that you had in the beginning and try to finish what you have started. Time will go by real fast, by the time you complete your degree you will ask yourself how did it go by so fast! Im also going to start my second bachelors as a BSN student this fall and Im hoping it will go by fast and pay off in the long run. Keep up the good work and don't give up!! Best of luck to you!

There have been posts made here by moms who successfully homeschooled while in nursing school / prereqs.

I tried. I did do 1 semester of 11 credits while homeschooling 2 of mine. I think they were in 1st and 6th at the time. I was working on call nocs as a CNA. I did get As that term, but vowed to send them to public school the next year. It was just too much for me.

I'm sure that my choice to send them to public school isn't one I would have made in good conscience (my personal convictions) if my life hadn't gotten turned upside down by my then husbands decision to tell me to get a job and quit school or leave our home along with our 3 kids.

I'm not saying you should send your kids to school, but I will tell you it's been almost 2 yrs of public school and I'm now a working Lvn in school working to finish my prereqs for the RN program.(and my divorce will be final next month)

I survived. So did my kids. I hope this helps!

Does your state allow you to hire someone to home school your children?

I am finishing up my last semester of nursing school. I homeschool my kids also. I have a 14yo and 11yo twins. The first semester was the worst for me.

Semesters aren't all that long, and this is temporary. We start the kids' school year in the summer and work really hard to get a lot accomplished by the time I have to start in the fall. Then the homeschool is already going well and the they can work on autopilot. There have been tears, I'll not lie. But it will all be worth it in the end. I have 8 days left. You have 3 semesters left, totally doable. Feel free to pm me if you want :)

Wow, I'm touched by each of your responses. Thank you for your encouraging words!! Many thanks!! And congrats to each of you on all your endeavors! 2brnfarmer, Id love to talk to you about how youve managed certain aspects as youve gone through. Thanks so much to every one of you!
