I am out for spring, hopefully next fall...

I was accepted for this fall (2003) and had to give up my seat to take care of some personal things so I figured I wouldn't have any problems getting in for spring. Boy was I wrong, they sent out letters on 10/20 and I didn't get one. They told me they had almost 400 applications and selected by how many support courses people had and then application date and then GPA. I only have one more course needed which is microbiology and they told me I was #161. My application date was Dec 2002. A girl in my A&P II class has one more class needed (psychology) and she got a letter. Not sure when she actually applied.

I am not too happy about it and now wondering if someone comes in and applies tomorrow and has all support courses completed, will that person be ahead of me also. I sent this question to one of the head people this evening. I also asked if my not taking the seat for fall affected this in anyway. We are allowed one time of not accepting and if we decline a 2nd time, we have to reapply and be added at the end.

Of course, if 59 people decide to back out, I could still get in (yea right) I'm pretty sure there will be some people who back out, but not that many.

Anyway, I guess I will take micro and some other courses that will help towards the BSN next semester and over summer. I will also graduate this June with my Associate of Arts Degree so at least I will be accomplishing something.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Debi,

I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get in. Take whatever courses you need and don't give up.

I'm glad your calling to find out what happened and see what you need to get in for the next fall.

Well I spoke with some else today. She stated that they took the people who 23 credit hours of support courses first and then also accepted the some with 20. I have 19 now and after this semester I will have 23 so that will pretty much ensure that I get in for fall. She also made the comment that they will have to send out more letters so I still have a chance.

I figure it's ok though since I do still need micro and looking at the courses needed for the BSN like statistics and history. So if I have to wait until fall, I will still be busy. Now if only I could get into a hospital around here part-time, that would be great.

Thanks

Great attitude Debi.

You'll get in. Nursing school is almost impossible to get into without the pre-reqs. You should be in great shape like you said after the spring.

Hospitals are very strange. No wonder they are short staffed. I couldn't even get calls back from 3 hospitals I applied at. I finally got in at a 4th one and I will also probably choose them for my scholarship.

I start my CNA training on the 6th of January and then will work part time in the evenings.

Hope you find a hospital with a good HR department and get a job!

Deb, the hospitals take incredibly long - I was waiting and suddenly three called me at once! Keep the faith - you'll be hired but it may take a while.
