How to start

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello all,

I am currently a new college student going to become a nurse. I 100% know I want to be a pediatric cancer nurse. I was wondering what classes people suggest for my first trimester to get me into the nursing program, as we all know it is a very competitive field. I need to get my GPA and hopefully be able to transfer in the max of two years from my community school. I know it is important to get my math and english out of the way, but i was wondering if i should get my associates in health science, biology or just go straight for nursing. In the end i would love to be a nurse practitioner specialized with children. Any ideas, questions, and comments would be great help.

Thank You,

Kenz

My question would be, what is your purpose for wanting an associate's degree? Do you intend to work as an RN before obtaining your BSN? Because I wouldn't waste the time with that, I just have seen so many students doing that and it hasn't gained them anything but time spent. Transfer to the 4 year school as soon as you can. Make sure to take Anatomy I and II, preferably in your fall and spring semesters at the community college.

You need to find out the requirements for getting into nursing school and take those required classes. It sounds to me like you need to speak with a college adviser.

Thank you for your reply. Now that you point that out, I agree with the waist of time part. Some people think its better to apply to a BSN program with having a solid background in the field. I believe i am going to take all my pre reqs and transfer to a 4 year program right after.
