Recently I got accepted into a nursing program. I wanted to see others opinions on how they prepared for school.

Relax. Wait for your orientation. Get you house cleaned and organized.

Relax and enjoy this holiday season!! It's fast approaching. There is nothing you can really do to prepare.

I definitely think that relaxing and enjoying the free time that you have is the best advice.

but if your like I was and that just isn't possible because you're too excited/nervous. Then I suggest reading a book that teaches you about how to study for and take nursing exams (critical thinking).

I read the Davis's "test success" book.

But my program recommended

"a good thinking approach to the NCLEX and other nursing exams" by poorman, mastorovich and molcan.

my classmates seemed to like that one.

but seriously, you're about to be so so so busy. Relax while you can :)

Begin reading encyclopedias - one volume each night - while taking marginal notes. Train your stomach to enjoy vending machine meals. Get some quality orthotics and support hosiery to prevent flat feet & leg pain/varicosities from trudging long distances between that very remote parking area and the various classroom sites. Tone up your back muscles so you'll be ready to haul the books, laptop & equipment for class. Notify all your friends that you'll be out of pocket for a while... hopefully meeting up again at semester break. Ask your family & friends to say 'mean things' and criticize you on a random basis - so you'll be prepared for deal with feedback from instructors. Practice ways to casually determine the GPA of your fellow students so you'll be better prepared to choose study buddies & group project members.

Yeah - this should help. There is an additional list of ways to prepare for clinicals... beginning with bladder training so you can go at least 8 hours between bathroom visits ;)
