I have a question of those of you whom have experienced a crazy/cruel instructor that has been or will be fired. What did your administration do for the students in terms of grades? Did the administration allow students to drop exam and/or assignment grades? How were you able to move to the next semester? What happened to the students who failed out of the semester before the firing?

I have not had the misfortune of being taught by a similar instructor (yet), however many others I know have had a similar instructor. As far as I know, the affected students' exams were not dropped or adjusted and failed students were not re-admitted into the program the following semester despite the instructor being fired. Therefore, I am curious as to how other programs have dealt with this situation .... Thanks.

I've experienced that type of instructor. :uhoh3: Unfortunately, they were not fired. The best I've seen happen is they do not get invited back to teach another semester. People's grades remained the same. I have not seen this with a tenured proff. I guess it's possible. In that case, nothing could be done. Continued good fortune in your educational experience.

I was in a class where we had our Spanish teacher fired about half way through the semester. I took my Spanish class along with some other prerequisties at night. The teacher would only half show. We only had class for an hour. The class was suppose to be for two and a half hours. The class was really upset that we were not getting our money worth so we went up the chain of command. We received an apology from the Vice President and President of the college (they actually came to our classroom and gave the apology and introduced our new instructor.) The other night Spanish instructor took over the class and she only used our grades that the new instructor had graded. We were given the opportunity to audit the Spanish class at no charge and did not have to take any test or complete any assignments unless we wanted to. I am totally unsure what would have happened if this was one of my nursing classes.

our second semester nursing teacher was fired 2 weeks before the end of the semester and the DON took over. she apologized to us and said she realized we had not been taught what we needed to know, but told us she was confident she could whip us into shape in those last 2 weeks. there were many students who were teetering on failure, and here's what the DON did: she gave us the opportunity to redo one of our projects, making the necessary corrections, if we did, we got 5 more points (all the while she denied that our nursing program gave extra credit). and, i have to admit, that she really gave us major hints on what would be on the final exam. she didn't spoon feed it to us, but she went over it with us in class. that has never happened before and i'm sure it'll never happen again. one student did not pass the class, and we were wondering what the DON would do because our program is notorious for failing people if they aren't at exactly 70%. there have been no exceptions in the past, just last semester, 2 girls failed within .5 of a percentage point of 70%. the DON let the student write a one page report on what gerontology meant to her and what she learned. (the student was upset that she had to write the report, but i felt that she was in a loophole that will probably never happen again, so take it and run!!!) a few students had been written up by the fired teacher, but their write-ups were not revoked. overall, the DON made the transition as painless as possible(even though we worked our butts off!)

i'm glad to put that entire semester behind me and i'm happy to have moved on and i hope that never happens again!!!

All three of my instructors are gone from last semester, they all coincendently "resigned" at the end of the semester. Out of 56, 33 of us didn't pass. We were refunded our money, we received no strike, and now we are all taking the class again. It's like we never even took it!
