when a patient has a hearing aid and is being prepared before surgery,

is the hearing aid removed?

My textbook says that "hearing aids are usually left in place to allow the client to better follow instructions. Glasses and hearing aids must be returned to the client as soon as possible following surgery."

so - is the hearing aid removed or left in?

thanks

i would interpret that is ususally they are left in, but if removed then they must be returned ASAP

why would you remove someone's hearing aid for surgery in the cases where it is removed? would that just be for ear surgery?

it's the explanation in this book:

"wedding ring can be taped to the finger to prevent loss. All other jewellery (including body piercings), prostheses, including dentures, contact lenses, and glasses are generally removed to prevent loss or damage. Hearing aids are ususally left in place to allow the client to better follow instructions. Glasses and hearing aids must be returned to the client as soon as possible following surgery."

Do some clients keep the hearing aid in during surgery? Or is it removed at some point before going into the OR? Obviously it'll be returned if it's removed prior to going to the OR

thanks again.

We were told that it is removed in the OR just prior to the anesthesia being administered
