Hello,

I was accepted to Nursing program last month for fall 2013.

Is Nursing based on a lot of writing such as essays? I have always struggled to write an essay and experience difficulties with grammar structure. English is not my second language but I have been in Canada for 10 years. How can I improve my writing because I really do not want to do poor in university. Also, what is scholarly articles/writings/papers?

Suggestions/advices are appreciated

Thanks!

I am in nursing school and have only done one actual essay, and it was more just a narrative of an experience in surgery and was very guided with questions. Most of nursing is learning how to be a nurse, not writing about it. Writing is involved, and more so with BSN programs I think. In my program, I haven't heard of many writing assignments going on except for of course care plans, but those aren't essays by any means.

toaster2, I'm about to finish a BSN program and yes, we had to write essays. I don't know about an ADN program, but it sounds like from RNStudentJ that there is less so in those programs.

Regarding scholarly articles/writings/papers, that's more the master's and doctoral levels and involves research. Nothing for you to worry about just now :-)

Thank you for replies.

What are some tips to success in Nursing school? Why do some students fail clinical? :|

@dbxs2, did you learn how to write a scholarly paper in your first year? I am not sure but I think Canada's Nursing program have that :S

I'm in a Canadian BScN program and we write ALOT of scholarly papers!! I swear some days it feels like I'll graduate and will only be able to write papers and never touch a human being (mind you I'm just finishing up first year with Los of time left for skills). My programs focus seems to be a lot of theory. There are centres on campus to help is with writing and our instructors have been readily available during office hours to help us with our writing as well. I don't know anything about the states nursing programs or what your campuses have available as far as tutoring goes, but ask around and I'm sure you'll find the help you need!! Good luck!
