Im 21 years old, one year away from gwtting my BS in Health Sciences at USF, my GPA is a 2.7 I want to be a registered nurse, but every second degree program I look at require a 3.0 GPA or higher to even be considered. Im not a bad student I had to retake college algebra in theend I got a B. And my 2nd semester in college I had to retake my classes and received nothing lower than a B. I spoke a friend the other day and they said Imight have to consider another career path. All Ive ever known are health classes, thats where Ive always been. I work as a CNA. I volunteer at thehospital. Im looking for advice, Im starting to feel like I wont be able to get into a BSN program despite all Ive done. Can I get some thoughts advice?

In my experience, I had a 2.9 overall gpa and prob 2.5 science gpa. I am currently in nursing school and I feel very lucky that I am in it. Apply everywhere you can and don't lose hope! Because right when I was about to lose hope and was going to retake all my sciences was when I got an email saying I got into a nursing program. Good luck!!

My science was all Cs. I dropped out of college. 7 years later I went back to college and I took pharmacology with an A in my final grade in my new school and I applied in nursing program. My school is very competitive and I was lucky and got accept in nursing. Keep trying u will success.

keep in mind that you are also competing with other candidates who may even be lower than you GPA wise or deficient in other areas (TEAs, higher GPA but mostly non-science, etc.). I was in a different category - my GPA was competitive but my TEAs were in the 70's and according to my school's criteria, they were looking for 85 and above. I thought I was doomed, but I applied anyway, and it turned out that was the school that accepted me while the BSN program I applied to rejected me (which didn't require TEAs scores so I thought with my high GPA I was golden). Go figure. Point is, life is funny, and you won't know unless you try.

Twaugh1, did you get in to a nursing program? I am also a graduating Health Science student from USF with a GPA of 3.0. I graduate in a couple of weeks and I'm really starting to worry that I won't get into a program either.

Thank you for all these comments about the GPA. It feels good to have such support especially for those who lurk here, wondering if we can take plunge and go into nursing. I too have less than 3.0 in the last 60 units and I am worried that I'm doomed with some prerequisites that can only be averaged once I re-take a few them. I'm hoping that when I take my science courses and rock them, it will prove I can do nursing to admissions. I'm in the middle of changing careers, age 32 licensed social worker, who eventually wants to be an NP. There are so many plans for me to get married, have kids, and all the meantime changing careers and starting prereq's. Such change! Looking to faith and the journey to help me not rush through everything and get to the top!

I graduated with my BSN this May with a 3.88 GPA, got into a new grad program for ER and loving every minute. Don't give up!!
