I am starting NS in less than 2 weeks. I am so excited about starting, but I am also curious on what to expect. I would like to know what areas are really covered during the first smester. I am a PCT so that helps me alot when it comes to patient care. I have been trying to relax because I know I am in for a ride once school starts. I just want to have a heads up on what to expect. Thank you everyone in advance for your advice.

Thanks Presnall4 and mammac5. I start Monday! I will keep everyone posted.

I wish you all the luck... but am saving some for me. I start in one week my first semester and I cannot even describe how terrified I am. I'm sure you'll do great :)

Hello everyone. I am updating you all on my first week so far of NS. I just want to start off by saying I LOVE IT!!!!! I have never had a passion for anything like this before. My classmates are wonderful and so is my instructor. Yes, the work load is great but I am staying positive. During breaks I utilize my time for reading. I also get started on h.w. right after it is assigned so I did fall behind. When I first saw our calender it was very intimidating, but it is doable. The nursing semester 4 students came in and brought us gifts and encouraged us. This was very helpful to hear advice directly from those who have gone through it. I wish everyone the best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first day of Nursing School was on the 8th and so far there is a lot of reading, homework, and studying to be done. I don't mind it, but it is time consumig. You should expect to be doing nothing but homework/reading/studying from the time you get up from the time you go to back to sleep, when you're not in class.

My first semester is all about the fundamentals of nursing... Vital Signs, Health Assessment, care plans... How to do things like transfer clients from the bed to a wheelchair, use PPE, ect. The basics, I guess you could say...

My school is different from other Nursing schools though, instead of 16 week semesters, we have 10 week semesters, so all the info that other colleges learn in 16 weeks we squeeze into 10 weeks...

The best advice I can give you is to stay out of the drama and not listen to what others are saying. Also, don't give up just keep your eye on the prize (Graduation and becoming an RN). You'll get through it...

I'd also form study groups and make friends that are in NS with you, because the people that are in with you are going to be the ones you laugh and cry with throughout nursing school...

Good Luck to you!

That is basically how are first semester is laid out too. I am glad that I am a PCT because I am comfortable. Yes, the reading is tremendous. I have been practicing NCLEX

Specializes in MS, LTC, Post Op.

NCLEX review is huge.

Organization is a must.

Sched. study time and review time.

Take a deep breath and take it all one day at a time.

Those are my rules to nursing school! LoL
