You need to follow your heart regardless. There are many people going to nursing school solely because of the nursing shortage and the money. When people heard about the shortage and the wages nurses made and the fact that they could be an RN in two years they jumped at the chance to become a nurse with no prior intentions. Why do you want to be a nurse? Nobody wants to graduate from nursing school and then find that they cannot find a job, but if your heart is truly in it and there are no available jobs when you graduate why not move? I don't know what you family situation is, but you could always move. I'll bet a lot of people will be retiring by the time you get out of school. This is an example of there is no such thing as a nursing shortage rather nurses that left the profession and are now returning. Good luck in what ever you decide, but don't let a news paper article deter you if this is what you really want to do.

Thanks for sharing that...I'm from Mn too, and in my town in southern Mn, they are only hiring 1 pt RN....

That article scared the heck outta me...yikes.

Graduate RN in 2006

I highly doubt there will be a shortage. You may have to wait a bit to find the right fit for you but there are ALWAYS places hiring nurses. Remember, always thikn positive. If there isn't an opportunity waiting for you right away, it is only because it there is something better coming along for you. :)
