Extern and previous work experience

At the end of this year, I will be qualified to work as an extern, so excited and nervous at the same time :chuckle . So i'm in the process of filling out an application form right now, one of the hospital i plan to apply for an extern position is Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital, which is a federal/government type of hospital that takes care of the veterans.

anyways, i'm filling out the application form, and i'm in the part that asks for previous work experience/job history, and i've never worked a day in my life before. since i dont have any work experience, what do i write down in that area? do i just put down N/A (not available)?

i'm wondering, does that mean i won't get hired, or the chances are against me of being hired? how important is previous work experience when applying for extern position?

??? How old are you? lol! I started working when I was 15 - because I wanted to. This is unusual. You can tell them your volunteer experience...

I don't think I'd put N/A (not applicable- I think. Not "not available").

oh yeah, that's right, not applicable, i thought it meant not available, lol.

i think people have to start somewhere to get their first work experience, for me this is the first if i get accepted to work as an extern, lol. that's what college is for, so we can get trained in order to work in the area we want to work in. But I have no regrets not working at an earlier age. :rotfl: let's just say i was born when Ronald Reagan was serving his 1st term as U.S. president.
