ER is kind of intimidating but I know I would learn a lot...if I can keep my nerves under control

It's a very fast paced, high adrenaline environment at times. But, you get to practice skills over and over again which is a wonderful opportunity! Hopefully you are with a great preceptor who looks for opportunities with you. When you're there, just remember to breathe, and DON'T lock your knees...lol...that way you don't pass out. Don't laugh, it's happened to many a nurse!
Good luck again!

Also, know that the ER at a level 1 trauma center, such as Parkland, would be MUCH different than the ER at another hospital.
Well I had my interview and was hired! I am super excited. Everyone was so nice and really put me at ease. Orientation starts Dec 15th. Woohoo!
Now if I can just pass this final cumulative exam for 3rd semester - ugh!
Congratulations!!!
Best of luck on the final! :)

Thanks! Whatever you're doing, it's working. I made an A on my neuro test and I actually have some decent cushion going into the HESI. Only a few more days ...
I've really been stressing about the HESI, so I've been busting my tail studying this semester trying to make sure I have some cushion. Historically, I bomb the finals, so that's why I was so nervous. But, I feel a lot better after I did the math and realized that I could probably make what I need with one hand tied behind my back, lol.
I'm still nervous, but feeling better.
I go to the hospital district to do my new hire stuff tomorrow!
WOOHOOOO JAXIA! :) Congrats again!

Hello Everyone,
I need some help... I'm currently finishing up my pre-req for El Centro ADN Program.....The only thing is I don't know if my GPA is high enough to get in...My GPA for the 5 pre-reqs is a 3.1 and I have 17 support hours with a 3.5 and my HESI score was 86 (I'm retaking it to score higher).....What are my chances on getting in with those Gpa's....What was the lowest they have been accepting????? Thanks!!!!
There is no telling if it is high enough. It varies dramatically from semester to semester. 4 semesters ago, you needed a 4.0 and virtually all support classes to get in. 2 semesters ago, the gpa was in the low 3.0s with almost no support classes. Just position yourself as best you can and give it a try!
Good luck!
Only a few more days ... it's hard to imagine that it's almost over.
I know! We're gonna have to practice signing GN instead of SN (although I REALLLLY hope to have my NCLEX done before Jan. 19!!!!

I was accepted in Spring 05, and at that time the lowest GPA of pre-reqs was 3.77 and the side courses was 17 and a GPA of 2.92. I actually did not have to take the Hesi because back then it was the NET test, but you only had to pass that test to send in your application. It changes every semester. Sometimes you have to have a 4.0, at other times it is lower. All you really can do is send in your application.
I know that El Centro is very competitive to get into and many students will take the pre-reqs over and over again until they get their "A" or 4.0 for the pre-reqs.
Good luck to you. It will be all worth it once you are in and finish the program. I am so much happier now as a nurse than I ever thought I would be. It is a long, hard road, but it can be done!!!!
