central box of concept map question

In the central box of the concept map,

if the person has come in for surgery (because of growth - so this is the primary diagnosis),

then is additional information such as Type 2 diabetes controlled by diet also included in the central box?

Or would the diabetes be in one of the nursing diagnosis boxes?

we went all through this a little over a month ago in this thread: https://allnurses.com/forums/f205/concept-map-chief-medical-diagnosis-question-226722.html. i just re-read my information on this since i happened to be looking at the template for a concept map from a college a couple of weeks ago. the fact that your patient also has type 2 diabetes is additional information (data) that belongs outside the central box. you would include any assessment data (elevated blood sugar, restricted diet requirements by the doctor) in their own data boxes around the sides.

by the way, nanda has approved and added a new diagnosis for 2007-2008 related to diabetes: risk for unstable blood glucose.

you really need to discuss this with your instructors since your class grade is probably depending on it. did you ask them with that other concept map?

yes, I ask various questions, but don't get answers.

Guesswork (based on material that I read outside of the course).

The nursing diagnoses that are outside the central box are supposed to be "real problems" (according to the reading by Schuster), therefore I have wondered about including "risk for ... anything" - although to me, it would seem that a diabetic confronts a real risk (as you've mentioned above)

thanks

It also depends on your instructor. Ask your instructor how they would prefer you to compose your concept map. I purchased the Schuster book to help me along the way and my instructors have liked my concept maps.
