Hello everyone. I am new here and I apologize if this is posted in the wrong area of the forums.
My question is this:
I will be completing a BS Business Administration in Human Resource Management in May 2014. I have been considering doing something in healthcare for a while now but also like business and human resources. Are there programs that will let me do an MSN without prior nursing licensure and no BSN?
Would it benefit me to get an ASN after I graduate with my BSBA?
Any suggestions on what to do with my BSBA if I do pursue nursing? Does my BSBA give me any advantages in the nursing world?
I have also thought about healthcare administration but would like some hands on stuff.

I graduated with a bachelors of finance and am starting an 12 month accelerated BSN program this summer. I did have to complete some prerequisite courses but it wasn't too bad. I did look into direct entry msn programs but decided that I wanted to focus on my RN first and then possibly pursue an advanced practice in the future. The best thing I did for myself was getting healthcare experience. I found a job working in a large acute care setting as a physical therapy aide. I would recommend getting experience so you can make an educated decision about going into nursing. If you have any other questions let me know.

I graduated from Stony Brook University with a degree in Health Care Administration about 2 years ago. I applied to many jobs in different areas of healthcare to be told that without an RN behind my name, they don't have any real interest in my degree. So now im going for RN, and considering a MSN in Administration because thats what someone would need to really work in healthcare admin or management. So to answer your question, more than likely you should consider the RN if you want to be in admin for nursing. I don't mean to sound mean, but a degree in "business administration" doesn't equate to a field in health care management, especially when many colleges and universities offer a full field in Healthcare Management, leading students to an RN program. For human resources, there are staffers at hospitals, but most of the RN and physician staffers and recruiters I have met have either been an RN or a MD.
If you want to stay in Business administration and go on to potentially work in a hospital or healthcare organization, most of the staff who do that with no medical background have MBAs or some have exceptions such as they know people or have experience doing similar work

I am in a similar situation. I have a BS in Finance with a minor in accounting. I am looking to go back for my RN and will be taking prerequisite courses this summer. Good luck and let me know what you decide!

I went back to school to be a RN after 20+ years of management experience. I have a BSBA also. The only degree that matters to my current employer is my nursing degree. They would rather hire/promote RNs into leadership roles that have NO CLUE how to manage or run a business because they have a BSN/MSN than hire RNs with outside PROVEN business success. Sadly am leaving the hospital field and going back to work as an RN in the health insurance field. Better pay and hours. Can't say I didn't try. Tired of working for people that don't know how to manage people.
