I have the tendency to get nervous and my breath begins to smell. I don't want to be in close setting with classmates, n teachers during class and clinicals. Went to the Dr. N dentist they both said I'm fine. But I know it smells at times.

I chew gum n mints but I pop them like its a controlled substance. The spray is too obvious the tongue strips does not last.

Advice before I start school

Chlorophyll taken regularly or Chlorella, it is an internal deodorizer and very healthy and detoxifying. If you aren't flossing regularly, bacteria gets stuck between the teeth and smell bad. If you haven't flossed in a while, try flossing and then smelling it it and see how nasty it smells. I use something called Earth Paste that does a great job of keeping me fresh. It isn't your typical toothpaste, it is basically bentonite clay which will help detox and alkalize the mouth.

Also, I have a feeling that popping gum, mints, and candy is probably at the root of the problem. Try eating some parsley a sprig. It will naturally freshen breath! Drinking water, and keeping a moist mouth will help too.

It is physiologically impossible to smell one's own breath after a short period of time of the change; remember how you no longer smell a bad odor in a room or neighborhood, because the sensors in your nose fatigue. Interestingly, one that does not fatigue is the one for smoke, probably because this lapse has some evolutionary preservation value. I digress.

If your physician and your dentist say there is no problem, you can believe them; they have had plenty of professional opportunity to be aware of myriad bad breaths.

Do what you want about mechanical or chemical interventions (better oral hygiene, tongue scrapers, WaterPik, etc.) but also put on your list a visit to someone who can help you with anxiety, since you seem extremely worried about this. Worth a shot.

Huumm very very true. I'm naturally a very worrisome person. Mom n dad same way. Honestly, looking term that is a goal to speak with someone. But class is less than a month I don't have the time for counseling and diagnosing

This is not intended to offer medical advice, but I do take a med that has dry mouth as a side effect. To beat this side effect, I routinely drink lots of water. When my water intake drops off a bit, I feel it and I know my breath knows it too. Good hydration does help!

Drink up!!!

Keep peppermints in your pocket and pop them before you know you're going to get nervous. :lurking:

Okay, so this is what I do for fresh breath: First step is to FLOSS (VERY IMPORTANT FOR FRESH BREATH, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT FOOD CAN BE STUCK IN BETWEEN YOUR TEETH THROUGHOUT THE DAY THAT JUST BRUSHING YOUR TEETH CANNOT TAKE OUT), next step is I gargle a capsize of ProFresh in my mouth for a couple of seconds while brushing my teeth without toothpaste (this distributes the mouthwash all over your mouth using your toothbrush), then I spit out the mouthwash and scrape my tongue with the tongue cleaner that ProFresh provides (THIS IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT FOR FRESH BREATH, IF YOU LOOK AT YOUR TONGUE YOU CAN PROBABLY SEE THAT IT IS COVERED IN WHITE, TRY TO SCRAPE YOUR TONGUE SO THAT WHITE STUFF COMES OFF AND YOUR TONGUE APPEARS PINKER), next is just simply brushing my teeth with toothpaste and lastly gargling my mouth with the mouthwash again and WALLAAAA FRESH BREATH!!!! DO THIS EVERY MORNING AND NIGHT ... (THIS ALL TAKES ME ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND IT'S WORTH IT).

I DON'T THINK YOU'LL HAVE A NEED FOR GUM OR BREATH MINTS EVER AGAIN!!! (MAYBE ONLY IF YOU MISS THE TASTE OF THEM HAHA :) ) good luck!

If the underlying problem is anxiety....no amount of tooth/breath products are going to help.

Yes, it is a long-term fix but it is something you should take care of now. Focus on reducing the anxiety (you can find many ways online, books, ect.) FIRST and the distraction of your breath will go away.
