Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering about NSNA. I've heard a lot about it recently and I want to know if you are a member and what kind of events your school holds. Please reply! :)

  • Does your nursing school have a NSNA chapter?
  • Are you a member of your schools NSNA?
  • Why or why not?
  • What kind of events does your schools NSNA hold?

Couple things I have to say about this. First, the NSNA gives you additional learning opportunities. Our state organization hold seminars twice a year and it is wonderful to listen to speakers about topics we may or may not study in class. Wish I would have been a member from the start, I missed out joining for my last year.

Second, when you apply for jobs I have been told that facilities like to talk to people that are involved and join different organizations. When I had my interview they asked why I hadn't joined the ANA. I told them I would need a paycheck first and I will. I put my membership in the NSNA on my resume.

From what I hear you get discounts on stuff and maybe a scholarship opportunity that you might not have had. I did get a small scholarship from my state SNA. I didn't spend much time being part of the NSNA except for the bi-annual seminars.

Does your nursing school have a NSNA chapter?
Neither school that I attended had a NSNA chapter. I completed a PN/VN program in California in 2005 and an LPN-to-RN completion (ASN) program in Oklahoma City in 2010.
