so i am ready to pull my hair out. i'm working on my icu care plan...my last one before graduation. it's ridiculous though! i keep hearing other students with these 1-5 page care plans that they just tape to a posterboard. mine is 67 pages right now and i still have a lot left to do. my instructor says the avg icu care plan is 80-100 pages. and i am in an adn program!!!!!! i am not complaining about having to know the stuff..i know it but these things are so repetitive and ridiculous. just wondering if any one else has these monstorous care plans to do as well!!!!!!:smilecoffeeilovecof  :crying2:

Don't worry, you'll never do another care plan after you get out of nursing school.

Uhhh, I have to initiate/update a careplan on every pt in the ICU. So don't count on never doing them again.

And when JCAHO was grilling me last week for over 2 hours, you had better believe that they looked at our careplans, and noticed every single shift that did not address them!

Not at all. Our care plans in Fundamentals and Med-Surg were very extensive. Some 20-30 pages. The Newborn and Pediactric CPs were lengthy as well because you had to include Mom/baby/faimily, etc. But by the time we got to Advanced Med Surg and did our ICU CP's...they were really quite short. We just hit the highlights. I guess by then we were expected to know the info better...and their grading reflected that. CP's may have been short, but you had better not make a mistake! LOL!

A 100 pg CP is ridiculous!

I almost fell out of my chair!

We got at least a week to do a careplan, if not two weeks...and ours were about 1/3 to 1/4 the size that is required of you!

We had a few 5-10 pg papers we had to do on various topics and we got almost a month for those.

How many of these do you have to do?

Same here. We update the careplan each shift.
