Any advice on how to study for OB/PEDI?

hello all,

i am starting ob and pedi next semester and i was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to study for both. our semester is divided up into two 8 weeks sessions: 1st 8-weeks ob and 2nd 8-weeks pedi. there have been quite a few failures from the previous semester and i don't want to be in the same boat. i tried to search the threads, but could not find anything on the topic. any suggestions will be appreciated:)

Hmm, I am just finishing an OB/Peds class that was also divided in a similar way. All I can think of for study tips is that it seemed to help to approach studying for this class in the same way as studying for advanced Med/Surg. I tended to organize reading/notes by system (GI, respiratory cardiac, etc) and associated diseases, pharmacology and nursing actions.

I too am starting Peds/OB next semester and I bought

"Maternal-Neonatal Nursing Made Incredibly Easy"

"Pediatric Nursing Made Incredibly Easy"

to read over the holiday break. I find these books quick, to the point, and interesting...not like a text book. So far they are great and I (having NO children and never been preggo) have learned alot already!

I saw that most of the people in my class taking OB/Peds that were having problems was because they were bringing in their own life. They were always saying "well I had that but that is not what happened or that isn't what the Dr. did." So when it came to the test they would put down what they went through, not what was taught to us. Also I saw some students fail not because they were bad students, they just had no deisere to work in OB/Peds so they didn't put any effort into it.

Learing wise Peds is totally different than adults, but if you know how to study (or what works best for you) than there shouldn't be too many problems. I still think most of the problems start with bringing ones own life into the class.

Hopefully I won't have that problem since I've never had kids. I have no comparison.
