I've came across another math question studying for my math test tomorrow that I just can't figure it out. Here goes:
Digoxin 0.125 mg PO bid is ordered and 625 mcg/ml is available. How many mg would the pt. recieve per day?
mg/day
0.125 mg/dose
625 mcg/ml
1000 mcg/mg
2 dose/day
There's too many *mg* and I can't figure out what's not to be used. Also there is no conversion between mcg or ml because that's a weight and a volume measurements. Could this just be a typo? Or has my brain just turned to mush after 4 days of math problems TIA

this is what i think it is. the question is asking for how many mg the pt would recieve each day. now the med ( digoxin) is givin twice a day- bid. heres how i calculate it- to go from mcg to mg divide by 1000- so 625mcg / 1000= .625. so now do .125/.625 which = .2 ( one dose) now .2 x 2(two doses) = .4 mg per day.
i think this is right, i find it alittle strange that the question is asking for it in mg instead of ml. let others respond to this post before you take my word for it. good luck!

You are asking how many MG the pt. would receive per day.
0.125mg/dose
Bid = 2 doses/day
0.125 x 2 = 0.25 mg/day

IF....the ONLY answer that is asked for is the daily dose, it is simply two times the dose stated......the rest of the info is extraneous....meant to occupy your mind......and distract you......now, if they also want to know how many ml you would give.....because this med is being provided in a LIQUID form, you would have to measure it out in ml,, for which you need to know the ratio of mg/ml.... 0.625/1ml divided by 0.25= dose in ml
