Advice for new nursing students!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I am starting nursing school this fall and would to hear everyone's opinions on working, studying, and anything else you can think of! I know there has been previous threats about it but I'd like to hear from some recent students also!

It's really up to you and what you think you can handle as far as working goes. I cut work down to 20-25 hours a week so that i had more time to focus on school but still had money coming in so i wasn't too stressed financially. I have classmates that quit their jobs all together and others that still work full time...how i have no idea though! If you do work just make sure that they're willing to be flexible and go around your school schedule.

Also make sure your organized, nursing school can get a bit crazy at times and you have to stay on top of it! Don't be afraid to ask questions, and as a few other people have said highlight, draw, and make notes in your text book, whatever is going to help you remember. Honestly i keep almost all of mine anyway and many of the books you'll use throughout the program, not just one class. Lastly find people you can study with and use for support, your all going to be going through the same things so it's nice to have people there you can rely on for help when you need it.

Good Luck! :)

Great thread! I hope others will add to it!

Yes, lots of paper and ink. However, I found out I could buy ink in bulk on the internet and refill my own old cartridges. Yes, it works fine, but a little messy. Saves like 90+% over the cost of new. Yes, I get error messages on my printer that tells me it detected refilled or used cartridges and my warranty would be void blah, blah, blah. I got a refill kit on Amazon for like $15. So far I have printed like a case and a 1/2 of paper on $20 worth of ink. Check it out.

Costco also refills for like $7

Did you guys use supplemental books for class? I've seen and heard that we should buy NCLEX books to help study for class. I'm little lost on what company book to use since there is so many and different editions. do we have to have the most current edition or up to date NCLEX book for studying for exams?

what NCLEX review books do you guys recommend for nursing students?

thanks!
