Adult Med/Surg ATI test -- advice? Did you pass?

Hi! I'm preparing to take my ATIs for adult med surg and mental health. Not so much worried about mental health but VERY concerned with adult med surg. Any advice? I've taken one practice test so far (without studying much at all) and got 61.1%. Sometimes the practice tests are much harder than the actual test. We have to get a level 2 to pass the course. Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! :nurse:

@LadyInScrubs - good luck to you and let me know if you have any questions about the ATI.

There were I believe 2-3 questions on burns. There was an easy one, about what to do after establishing an IV - you hydrate with IV fluids. There was another one that asked what to do with a deep partial full thickness burn - debridement (2 diff types can't remember) or dressing changes w/ certain dressings. I didn't study burns too much so I guessed on that one.

@ Melissa ... thank you so much! I have to take it this week and am NERVOUS (about the medsurg one)!! If you can think of any other topics that there were several questions on, please let me know! Thanks!! :)

I'm so glad that you passed.!!! I bet you feel relieved.! I don't care for taking the ATI tests and I'm nervous eveytime I take them but I always seem to do well on them, thank God! I wish everyone the best of luck on your ATI's.

I had the luxury of taking the Adult Med Surg ATI today.... Needless to say I studied all weekend, 12 hours Sat. and 12 hours Sun... Mostly took practice tests, all of the codes that I had I took them, read the rationales both the correct answers and all of the incorrect answers.... Relaxed..... Then took the tests again telling myself why the answer was right before I answered it.

Regardless, I went into the test feeling like an idiot..... I came out of the test feeling like an idiot..... However, I got a level 3... 80% so clearly I did something right!

Thank god that ones in the books for now. NEXT!

I'm not sure how people actually studied for this! In my school, we had to take 2 practice tests before we took the proctored exam. On the first practice test, I got a 50%. On the 2nd one, I got a 66%, but I retook it to get a 100% so I could get extra credit. When I took the proctored exam, I got a 68% and that was level 2. Some people from my class got a higher percentage than I did and still scored a level 1. If you didn't get a level 2, you had to retake the test at home until you got an 80% or higher.

Does your school do practice exams? We do them at atitesting.com. We also get little help books. I've heard if you look at NCLEX preparation books that may help. Also, I don't know how it is for your school, but at my school there are a lot of questions on things we didn't learn yet. I guess it's kind of a hit or miss..

@Sgalvin07:

Do you know what the national percentage average is right now after you took it yesterday? I have to take mine Wed.

I am studying the same way you said you are studying, so I hope it pays off for me like it did you!! :)

Congrats on doing so well!!!! :)

at the beginning of our nursing program, we were required to buy the ati readiness program (about $300 but it can be used throughout the entire program and to study for the NCLEX). this provides us with the ati books and exams for the subjects. we must pass ati exams for the subject in each class. those not passing with a level 2, must take remediation and then take the test. everyone must pass the test with level 2 or higher or fail the class. oh, this is over and above any quizzes/exams for the class. the ati readiness books for the subject does help.

Our nursing program is the same way. If you do not achieve at least a level 2, you are required to re-take the ATI one more time and then if you do not pass, you have to re-take the course. And, you are out of the program if you fail two classes.

copied straight from my report:

adjusted individual total score: 80.0%

ati proficiency level: level 3

mean - national: 63.3%

mean - program: 64.0%

percentile rank - national: 99

percentile rank - program: 99

make no mistake about it though, this was by far the hardest ati I've taken...the results were good, but while taking the test I constantly thought to myself that I shoulda studied more than I did

question.. did you read the whole book and then practiced answering ati questions? or you just took the practice tests?

Thank you!! And, yes I have a feeling this will be a terrible test! Thanks for your help! Are there any topics that there were a lot of on the test?!

THANKS!!! :)
