Academic References

Nursing Students General Students

So I'm applying for a few scholarships and several of them require an academic reference. I have tons of professional references I could provide, but being that my college-career has been doing generals and pre-requisites, I haven't developed lasting relationships with any faculty. I asked a teacher from last semester who I had a good relationship with, but since it's been awhile and she never replied to my email I figure that's a no-go. One of my classmates suggested asking my current professor of my upper-level biology class, and thinks that because I am maintaining an A in the class, he could do it. but I've only "known" him for this semester... What do you think?? And how did you find academic references prior to even starting your program? I start nursing school this fall.

thanks!

I've asked for references from professors that I've only had for one semester and generally they were always willing to do it. I suggest you ask.. the worst they say is no.. then you are no worse off :)

Best of luck.

Absolutely ask your present professor. Back when I was doing pre-reqs I got a great recommendation from my chemistry teacher and she was happy to help. Just explain what your goals are and why it is needed...oh and give them a date you need it by(maybe in 2-3 weeks), so that way you can have it on time and they won't forget....oh and it always helps if you've been getting A's and doing well in the class before you ask them.

Thanks! I will try my past professor one more time and if nothing, I will approach my current professor.
