about to max out on credits, please help. macomb community college

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Ok, so im a student at Macomb Community College. I was in the vet tech program than decided it was not the right path for me. This summer and fall I will be complete for the nursing program pre-reqs, will take HESI and will be accepted for 2015 program. The issue is that I am entirely dependent on financial aid, however once I get into the program I will only have 12 credits left to use , and that includes loans as well. I have contqcted the office about it and they informed me about the appeal process but they discussed how students were granted it if they were very close to graduation, 20 credits or left. I am not sure what to do, so please if anyone has advice or has been in a similiar situation I would greatly appreciate your input, thank you

I mean no offense with this, but the caps on credits is there for a reason so there isn't much you can do outside of working an saving up to pay your own way. Many students use little to no aid because they pay their own way. Grants should be obvious. It is "free" money and it's not fair for tax payers to pay I I a never eding tax fund. Or loan, if you want to avoid repayment then you can keep takin courses. You have to pay this back right? Well if their is no cap on credits then essentially you could take classes fr years and years and rack up so much debt you could never pay it back. I can see how this is sucky for those who maybe didn't max their loans or grants in prev classes and maybe only used a little, but there has to be a cutoff somewhere. I'm sorry you're in this tough spit, but sounds like its time to sit down, make a strict budget and start saving saving saving. Last resort would be to apply fr a private loan but interest is ridiculous on those. GL

There are always private loans, and scholarships. I know several who are depending on these.

I've been through the appeals process, since I changed majors several times before finally realizing what I wanted to do with my life. Because by that time I was actually IN the BSN program, I was granted the waiver. Every situation and school will be different. All you can do is apply for the waiver and hope for the best. Usually, if they see you're making academic progress (which is what they said here), they'll grant the waiver.

I have a question for anyone that could answer. What are the max credits you are allowed to have for financial aid? I've been using aid for 6 years and I'm wondering if I'll run out before I'm done with my nursing program.
