Well, I have my first interview tomorrow for a staff RN!!:balloons: However, my friend just interviewed at the same place and she told me the interview was very hard. She is an experienced RN. Do you think they will ask me the same questions that they ask experienced RN's? I don't graduate until May, so they know I don't have any nursing experience beyond clinicals. I have a ton of tech experience, but that's not what they're going to base their questions on. I'm nervous.

I would guess they are going to ask you questions that pertain to you and your status, which is a new grad rather than an experienced nurse.

Good luck at your interview!!!

Good luck to you! I have not interviewed for a nsg position...yet, but I have interviewed many people in my past position. Just try to be calm, and answer honestly. If you don't know the answer...then explain how you would go about finding it. They may want to know why should I hire you? What can you contribute? How long do you plan to stay? ect.or how would you do so & so? Now tell me why you would do it this way or Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What did you like best about your last job? and least. You will probally be asked questions like..If you could be any animal, what animal would you be & why? This is just to see how fast you think on your feet. I would know something about the organization, and relate your experiences back to the position for which you are interviewing. Make eye contact, be friendly, use good body language, and sound sure of yourself. Have your questions lined up to ask the interviewer. Good luck I hope this will be helpful to you.

Thanks. It was pretty tough. They were the same questions that they asked my friend (experienced RN). Things like, "Describe a specific situation when you integrity was challanged," or when was the last time you used your skills and knowledge to prevent another team member from making a mistake, and how did you handle telling them?" There were a lot of scenerios where they asked how I would handle them, and how I would document them in the chart. I did pretty well. I still have another interview to go before I know if I get the job!

Good job! & Good Luck

I recently went through two nursing interviews (one of which landed me a job in ICU:mad: ) and the best piece of advice I can give you is to be yourself! Remember that you are "selling yourself" in an interview and the only way you can do that is let the interviewer see who you really are.

Best of luck to you - you will do great!

CardiacRN:

Do you know what 7W is at UMC?

Sorry, thread jack: 7W at UMC is the pediatric unit. My son was hospitalized there a year ago. They are wonderful.

Thanks for sharing what an RN interview is like. Job interviews are hard!

Thanks. It was pretty tough. They were the same questions that they asked my friend (experienced RN). Things like, "Describe a specific situation when you integrity was challanged," or when was the last time you used your skills and knowledge to prevent another team member from making a mistake, and how did you handle telling them?" I'm not anywhere near my first RN interview (have to get into nursing school first!) but just out of curiosity, how does a new grad or soon to be new grad RN answer "tell me about a time when you ..." questions?? Are you supposed to give nursing specific answers - and does that mean you will be drawing from nursing school? Would that make you look like class know it all if you have to draw on examples of how you stopped classmates from making mistakes?? Or ... can you relate back to former work or other life experiences?

I'm not a huge fan of abstract interview questions and I'm always happiest when hiring managers guide the conversation about the job, the organization and exactly what they're looking for.

Anyway good luck and hope all goes well.

Are you sure you are not talking about 3W...that is a pediatric unit. The website said it was an adult unit, but thats all the description it gave.
