"Pharmacology" help *Fall 09*

Nursing Students General Students

I am taking pharmacology once school starts at the end of August. I was wandering if there are any well-written, easy to follow, broken down sites, or books I can get to help!

I am also starting clinicals this semester. School starts in a few weeks and I would like to start preparing for clincials. For those who have done/are in clinicals, what would you recommend me reviewing, or how should I prepare myself?

Thanks so much for everyone's time,

Brandon

I've heard that pharmacology made easy is a great book. I've never actually read it myself.

Here something that is instrumental to your success in pharmacology, specifically when you do calculations...

LEARN DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS!!!

Basically, you memorize conversions like 1hr./60minutes, 1Tbsp/3tsp, 1tsp/5mL, etc.

Once you memorize these, you use them to solve many different kinds of problems. If you aren't familiar with it, I would highly suggest you look it up and learn how to do it before you start pharm.

Pharm tends to be one of the weakest areas for some students. The most important thing is to learn the biggies for each class of drugs and learn the REALLY bad side effects/ adverse effects of some drugs. Good luck! :D

Specializes in NeuroICU/SICU/MICU.

I found it useful to have a drug guide handy..I have one on my Palm Pilot, and any time I heard about a drug I wasn't familiar with, I looked it up.

I disagree with Lifelong Dream about dimensional analysis. I've never been able to understand it, and I get dosage calculations wrong if I try. I just do the conversions one by one using proportions until I get to the final answer..I've gotten 100% on every nursing math test I've taken, so that's what works for me You'll figure out pretty quickly which method works for you.
