What would probably be most helpful for you to learn is just basic assessment of the postpartum mom, also known as the BUBBLE-HE, and basic assessment of the newborn. Learning fetal monitoring strips is pretty complicated. You can try to read up on basic concepts of labor, as in the stages (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) and where they start/end. That should be plenty I think. :) You'll pick up much more with hands on care.

OB clinical has been my favorite!

If you're going to get a head start, I would recommend starting with care of the laboring patient, postpartum assessment, and newborn assessment. Knowing what's expected in these patient populations is important - then you can learn about unexpected findings, when to be concerned, etc.

Aw, have such a blast!

On my first ever day of clinical- by the time I was half way through I was STARVING! Please please please, eat a nice big breakfast! And lots of water! I had a few peers who were taken by surprise in the OR during a section and got "sea legs" and had to sit down. Stay hydrated- my professors said it makes a world a difference!
