I've read through many of the replies. People are honest....I fail to see how honesty is considered "mean." Since you aren't a nurse, you can't really say how you will practise or treat your patients. Come back and let us know your thoughts after you've been practising on your own for a year. OP, I think you'd do better sticking with bartending, rather then entering nursing school, considering your expectations.

People did try to offer you sound advice, but you don't seem to want to accept it. You'd do well to consider the viewpoints offered here from actual nurses; some posts are really very well thought-out.

I don't think any one has been mean. I think everyone is trying to help you understand that while the hourly wage might sound tremendous....the actuality is that your dollar doesn't go that far. Depending on where you live....housing can swallow up a large portion of your paycheck.....especially if you want all the amenities. Your school loans will be due and they average about $800.00 a month.

I am positive that many of the posters here are excellent nurses.....telling you honestly what to expect out of school doesn't make them less nurses to their patients. They have experience on their side and I think they were trying to help. Being a nurse will give you a reality shock that the job is not all it's cracked up to be.....the day to day grind is sobering.

Nursing is a hard profession and you will never be paid what you are worth. It is physically, intellectually and emotionally draining. You will have immense responsibility and be the whipping post for most of the patients and families not to mention administration. I used to bar tend for extra cash.....at least I could refuse service to drunk loud obnoxious people and have them arrested for public intox....in nursing you can't.
