Nurses General Nursing

I've been a nurse for 15 yrs now, and I can honestly say I'm ready to leave the profession. I always chalked up my job disatissfaction to not having found my 'nitche'. But it finally hit me that the problem is what I went into nursing for and what the profession tends to be theses days are very different things.

I have spent time in Cardiac Step Down, PACU, Day Surgery, in hospitals and out and currently telephone triage for a large IM group. I thought I would be spending my time educating, and advocating for my patients. Alas, my days are spent calling in controlled substances for our drug seeking pts that don't even require a Dr's appt to be prescribed such drugs. Giving antibiotics out willy nilly, despite attempting to educate pt's that Abx don't help a viral infection.

I don't think another area of nursing is the answer for me. So those of you that have transitioned out of nursing what type of work are you doing now? How was the transition?
