Son of an Registered Nurse

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm 56 years old, male, married, having a late teenage family. I'm not a nurse but a son of a registered nurse. I suppose I'm looking for support more than anything. Almost every day, I thing of enema equipment and taking enemas. Yes, I know this is not normal. I've had several years of councelling and have not taken enemas since 1993 (except for one time last year). My general practictioner knows of my situation and has prescribed Paxil for Obsessive - Compulisive behaivor. This has helped, I believe. But I continue to obsesess about equipment, about the actual procedure. I'm seeking support in the form of councel from people who are in the same field as my mother. If this is weird, please excuse the message as I've had some wine. If you are inclined, I just want to communicate for support, as I am going through a time when I am seriously tempted to: purchase new equipment, go to a colonic irriigation therepest, and continue in this obession. Obviously, councelling has not had the effect on me that I expected.

Hi. If your post is legitimate, you might find like-minded people on health-center.com, under the mental health section. It is a great site for all kinds of health related topics, with BB'S like this and lots of good people that go out of their way to support others. It is also a place you can vent your frustrations, ask for help, etc. I don't see any harm in the occasional enema, but this sounds like it's controlling your life. Good luck.

Thanks for your message. Yes, my post is legitimate. I suppose that I felt this site would be the right place since nurses experience many situations and usually have insight into what may help. You are correct that the thought of enemas is an obsession ("it's controlling your life"). I'll probably not pursue this further here on the internet. But I will discuss this with my GP.

Be sure to check out OCD on that other site I gave you. If you're not comfortable posting, it may help you to read what others are experiencing re OCD, and which meds have helped them, which ones haven't. Also, you may be better served by seeing a psychiatrist skilled in treatment of OCD, rather than a GP. Just some thoughts. Good luck!
