Sacramento City College ADN Spring 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! Anyone who got accepted at Sac City ADN Spring 2016? We can start posting here and get to know each other before the program even starts. Looking forward....

I was accepted! So excited! This is a great venue for posting and once our semester starts we could start a facebook page to share info and communicate as well. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Michelley88, have you started all the requirements? The dates in the packet pertains to Fall 2015 students though. Where are you going to take your CPR class?
Specializes in Emergency Department.

You are going to be in for a fun ride there. It'll be a lot of work but the instructors are all very good. Some do have a reputation for being tough but they'll be fair as long as you do your part. They will not spoon feed you.

@ nursewannabee I have not started the paper work yet. Waiting until early December as the packet suggests and according to the email that was sent out. I'm anxious to get started though!! I have my BLS done, I live in Lodi and i renewed it here in town. Are you a student?

I'm ready to work hard and I'm hoping for some really good instructors. I don't expect to be spoon fed, but hoping to obtain all the skills and knowledge I can from my instructors and clinicals to be successful! I was hoping to see other students posting here, guess I'll have to wait to meet them at the orientation.

Hi Michelley88,

Yes, I will be a student at SCC for Spring 2016. I have not started the requirements yet and not taken the BLS. Will try to start November or December.

I was also accepted to Sac City College Nursing Program for Spring 2016. Didn't start the requirements yet, because I was waiting for ARC. But since I got the rejection letter from ARC Nursing Program, I am now focused on doing the requirements For Sac City. Can't wait to start the program.

I am currently finishing 3rd semester at SCC. It's a great nursing program. It is very tough but that is to be expected. I highly advise to start practicing the NCLEX question format and test taking strategies as the questions are completely different than what you are used to in the prerequisites.

Congrats on getting in guys. I'm finishing my first semester, so I have some pearls of wisdom for you if you're interested.

1. You won't believe how fast the semester goes by.

2. Buy your books as soon as possible and start studying your dosage calculations immediately. There are specific sections to learn in the orientation packet, know each one backwards and forwards. Trust me, you want to pass the math quiz the first time so you aren't stressing about it while also studying for the first exam. And you definitely don't want to be at risk of being dropped from the program for not being able to pass it.

3. The style of testing is different and therefore the way you study will likely be different. So study as much nclex style questions as you can to get used to it. You can start with the end of chapter quizzes. Some people really struggle with this style, others flourish. Learn what method of studying works for you early on. Ex: I read the lecture first, then read the chapters focusing on main points from the lecture, then find some youtube videos about it to reinforce it in my brain.

4. Study, study, study. And then study some more. You don't want to be on the verge of passing and have that stress added on! Try to build a cushion early on.

5. The professors aren't scary! They are tough, but will bend over backwards to help you succeed, but it is up to you.

6. If you can't quit your job or take a leave of absence, work as little hours as possible!

7. Don't be a know it all. That's great if you are an emt, but don't act like you already know everything. It's annoying.

8. In the midst of all the chaos, take some time in between exams, and reconnect with your spouse! Nursing school is time consuming, but don't forget those who are supporting you.

9. Clinical is fun. Most of the patients are amazing. And don't be scared of the staff nurses. If they seem sassy or irritated, 9 times out of 10 they'll warm up throughout the day after the morning rush.

10. Just relax! It's hard at first but you will find your groove. You are smart already or you wouldn't be there. You just have to mold your brain to look at things in a different way but you are given all the tools to succeed.

All I can think of right now. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!

@abergr05, what is the schedule like?

Tuesday-Friday, times kinda depend. But morning to early afternoon.
