A reminder to remember our nursing basics.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I just heard some very sad news today. A friend of my brother's fiance died last night. Kelly's friend developed Leukemia and was on an Oncology unit at one of our local hospitals. Apparently, an opportunistic infection has spread through the unit. This infection attacked the young girl's lungs and kidneys. She had to be put on a vent and wasn't able to speak to her family and friends during her last hours.

The worst part about it.....the infection has been linked to a nurse on the unit that was not performing the most basic of nursing functions. SHE WAS NOT WASHING HER HANDS.

Very tragic. This girl was only about 22 or 23 years old. Kelly said she was a hardworking student who eventually wanted to go into pharmaceutical (sp?) research.

Anne.:o

i think we have been running specials. one week it was a discount on gastro diagnosis'. last week it was the two units for the price of one transfusion sale. this week its the midnight madness pneumonia

blowout.

i have been washing my hands between procedures, between patients, and just to be on the safe side, between hand washings. ..lol

this morning my hands were sooo sore. but its so easy to spread something from one patient to another or to ME!

this is such a basic prevention.

last night i swore that if one more patient coughed in my face i was going to start doing it back. boy do i hate that.
