There is a very high probability that I'll be offered my dream job in NICU when I graduate (in december)...but the position is an hour and fifteen minutes from where I live. I have been offered a position at a facility 10 minutes from my house in an acute rehabilitation facility, and in this economy, I'm thankful for the offer. However, I don't want to pass up on the NICU position because it seems near impossible to get in that specialty unless you're a new grad or already have experience. Is it crazy to make this commute three days a week? Has anyone done this? What would you do if you were in my situation?

I only wish that I was in your shoes right now. Take the NICU job! You may never get the chance again. I long for a NICU job, it is my passion and the reason I went to school to become a nurse in the first place. However, I can't get a NICU job because I do not have enough experience and can't get experience because hospitals will not hire if you are not experienced.

Right now I am working as a post-NICU Pediatric Home Health Nurse. I drive 1 hr 30 mins (60 miles) one way to get to my patient's home. I do this because I absolutely refuse to take a job in an area that I know I will not be happy in and I no longer apply for those positions. If you love NICU as much as I do, do not pass up the opportunity because you may never get that opportunity again.
