i got an interview call from a hospital...i hv go thru the possible interview questions which are available on internet..i am worried about it becoz i am a foreign grad rn..and not so perfect in american english...and hav few experience clinically...so i want help from people wel informed about the issue,that i would face in hospital interviews and hw can i overcome it..

If you have an accent talk and pronounce your words clearly and slow...I have an accent myself:).

I have been to several interviews and some interview questions I have been asked a lot include:

1. Your strengths and weaknesses.

2. What are your career goals.

3. Describe your previous job experience.

4. Describe a situation where you had to go way and beyond for a patient/client.

5. How would you handle a situation where you were very busy at work and you have a lot going on?

6. What character trait of coworker do you dislike and how do you deal with it?

Maintain eye contact. Spin your weaknesses to something positive don't dwell on them.

I know you said you read through questions on the internet, but I have been to 2 interviews is the last 2 weeks and I'll tell you what they asked me.

Tell me about a time you were in a negative situation, and how you turned it into a positive one.

Who is your favorite supervisor and why?

Who is your least favorite supervisor and why?

What would your current employer say about you?

What are your favorite things about your previous job (or current)

What are your least favorite things about your current (or previous) job?

Tell me about a time you had a very upset patient and how you handled it to make the patient happy.

For each question, I think it is important to take a few seconds to think about a specific situation, then tell about it. Rather than fumbling through without really answering their question.

Great eye contact, confidence, look up info about the company so you are informed about the job and be enthusiastic about why you want to work for them. Handshake when you first meet, and when you part. Ask when they expect to make their final decision (so you arent left wondering)

Sent a thank you note immediately, talking about how after you met with the person, you are further confident you will meet their nursing needs.

If they try and talk a lot about your limited experience, turn it into you are very ambitious and excited to learn all skills available in their facility. Dont apologize for any language barrier you have, if you are able to communicate effectively with patients, you should be able to communicate in an interview.

Take a look at their mission statement and values. I was asked to pick one of their values and give an example of when I demonstrated/upheld that value at a previous job.

Do your homework! I always ask the applicant why they want to work at my institution and what they know about us. Usually they say "It a magnet hospital". Not enough............know what magnet is all about! I always ask about their most difficult patient, the patient that left a lasting impression and if they've ever gong above and beyond for a patient.

DO NOT bash/bad mouth or say anything that can be understood as NEGATIVE about your current position.

That's a really good point. Take a look at how the hospital is involved in the community or recent press releases.

Let me tell you, the interviewer's asked me three of the exact same questions mentioned above!

I also believe CONFIDENCE and one's PERSONALITY is the key to landing a job!
