Platt College BSN Grads?

Hi,

I'm considering starting the BSN at Platt College here in Colorado. I've read the other threads here already. It sounds as if it may be a risky venture due to not having had a graduating class yet, not attaining NLN accreditation, etc.

Has anyone here graduated from their BSN program in Oklahoma? I'd love to hear about employment opportunities and if you'd had any problems getting a job being a Platt grad.

I'd always thought if you passed your boards, there was no prejudice but the threads I'm reading sound otherwise. Experience? Thoughts?

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi Michelle! I can't speak for the college in OK, but I can tell you that it is not related to Platt College in Aurora, CO. I'm a student at the Aurora campus and I've enjoyed my time here. I know that we just graduated our first class of BSN's and that a little over 1/2 of them have job offers pending their NCLEX-RN scores. I also know that the first student to take the NCLEX has passed, haven't heard on the others yet.

If you have any other questions about the school please feel free to send them my way and I'll answer them if I can.

Why did the National League of Nurses drop Platt College in Aurora from their group. All that is left is the national accreditation from The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), and my understanding of accreditation is as follows:

The main issue is the transferability of credits from one institution to another. While nationally accredited institutions will usually accept credit from regionally or nationally accredited institutions, regionally accredited schools often do not accept credit from nationally accredited institutions. This also means that if you hold an Associate's degree from a nationally accredited school, you may have to start over if you later decide to pursue a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited school. Similarly, if you hold a nationally accredited Bachelor's degree, you may not be eligible to enter a Master's program at some regionally accredited institutions. Considering that state colleges and universities are regionally accredited, and are an inexpensive local option for many students, this is definitely something to keep in mind.

So Platt is 60,000.00 plus and 3 1/2 years from what I am reading. This is crazy. Why would anyone go here. The school needs to prove viability through volume. Please someone share with me how many nclex passes the school has had per class. Also I would like to know how many people stayed in each graduating class from the beginning. The information I am getting already is narrowing my choices between National American University and Denver School of Nursing. Concorde is a possibility, but it has some issues as well.

I just went to Platt and passed their entrance exam. From what I understood at their information meeting it would be about $27,000 a year if you didn't have any of the classes done (they take transfer credits and since I have a bachelor's already I wouldn't have to take the same classes over). They broke it down also saying that they are about $330 a credit while UCD is about $500 and Regis is about $900. Now as the price goes up, the length of the program goes down. Anyway, my real question about this school is about it's accredidation. From what I understand, it is basically worthless to go to a school that isn't nationall accredited. Why bother getting something regional or by state if you plan on movie ever? Is that correct????

It appears that Platt is ACCSCT accredited, but what does that really mean? Is that national?

Check with your BON for the school's NCLEX pass rates.
