I have been for a couple of years trying to change from Pediatrics to Adults. I have worked peds, PICU, and PEDS ER for most of my career. I have done very little adult, less then a year of med surg/registry.

The area I live has very little Peds position, so I have to drive a good distance for my current job. I am really burned out with the drive.I don't mind working with adults, but it seems like I can't get in. I even have my ACLS. Still no avail.

When I am asked why I want to go to adults, it seems like I have no good answer to satisfy. I usually say, I want a change after many years of working with peds. I even point out that when I worked peds er, that I have taken care of adults too. If they come in we care for them as well due to EMTLA laws. We treat them of send them to an adult hospital for care.

Does anyone have any questions in how I can get them to consider this peds nurse for the adult world? BTW I have an interview in 2 weeks for an adult ER.

Something about how much joy you get from treating the adults that come in and you have to treat. You've come to realize you look forward to them. You're fascinated by the range of issues that adults can have that rarely occur in peds and would love to see that kind of variety. Not to mention, you've recently been spending time with older folks and would love to treat more geriatric patients. With an adult ER, you can get the best of all worlds, (because I'm assuming like most EDs, they also treat the peds that come in, scratch that one if they have a separate peds ED).

Even if it's mostly burn out from the drive and you "don't mind" adults, in your interview, you know it's weird, that most nurses tend to go the other direction from adult to peds, but YOU DESPERATELY WANT to do adult nursing.
