Patients wants HHAs to do his homework

I have a patient who is frustrated that the home health aides won't do his homework for him so he can pass his class. He is blaming us for him falling behind in his studies. He wants us to write his papers for him (two 5 page papers), and all of his assignments for his lecture. I can't believe how selfish and entitled he is; taking care of him is enough work in itself, its nearly impossible to squeeze in homework assignments between shifts. He enrolled in college expecting the aides to put in all the effort so he can pass. Crazy.

He is most likely frustrated, grieving, and scared. Realize that he is most likely going through a very difficult time in his life and most likely feels as though he is drowning under the pressure. College can be very difficult and stressful simply for the healthy, let alone the ill.

Do not cheat for him but just be caring, understanding, and reassuring. He is not your peer, he is your patient and being so entitles him to your understanding and care. You are being given a privilege to care for him, remember that.
